Beginner - Watch charts and/or use alerts?

Hi I am a complete beginner and wanted to ask:
How does trading actually goes?
Do you have to sit hours and hours watching different assets waiting for a situation that fits your strategy to happen?
OR, without having programing skills, Is there a way to create alerts that will tell you when a price/position of an asset fits at least one or some of your criteria and then you go and check the relevant chart?
For example, suppose that I trade on a 5 min expiry time. For my strategy, one of the criteria is that RSI is above 80 or below 20. Can I create an alert that will tell me when one of the assets that I can trade hits that number. This way I could then check the charts to see if the rest of the criteria are in place?
